This is a really cool show about working livestock dogs from Wyoming Public TV. The show is worth watching just to see the dogs. Around 16 minutes though it goes into discussions about what it takes to breed quality livestock dogs and there are almost perfect parallels between them and the Ryman-types. Things like as soon as the AKC gets involved they want to make the dogs pretty and they lose working instinct, and field trials make them too high powered with too much range- have to put them on a chain to keep them from running off. At one point they even complain that the dogs get “standardized”:-) Lisa
